About A.J. Thomas

A.J. Thomas was educated at St Cuthbert’s College in Epsom, Auckland, and holds a B.A. in English, Mathematics, Accounting, and Psychology from the University of Auckland, as well as a Diploma in Education from the Epsom Teachers’ Training College.

Her professional life has been dedicated to storytelling, journalism, and championing rural communities — especially the animals who often go unheard. A freelance journalist by trade, A.J.'s passion has always centred on the land, its sustainability, and the welfare of those who inhabit it.

She lives on a quiet property in rural South Auckland, where she runs a rehoming centre for farm animals in collaboration with the SPCA. An organic gardener and avid home cook, she tends her land with love and care, believing deeply in living gently and giving generously.

And then, of course, there’s Turbo.

This mischievous little duck has flapped his way into her imagination and refused to leave — so now, he’s yours too. With twinkly eyes and untameable charm, Turbo brings laughter, heart, and a little feathered chaos to children everywhere. In an uncertain world, his antics remind us all how important it is to laugh, to hope, and to believe in magick — even if it comes with muddy webbed feet.
